Bollywood is the biggest movie Industry in the world. For a new fan of Bollywood who wishes to get acquainted with this industry, here are the movies that garnered the greatest profits this year up until 1st November, 2010:
Dabaang
An action movie, the plot centers around Salman Khan, who plays the character of an unapologetically corrupt policeman who considers himelf the Robin Hood of unprivileged people. The character has many shades and nuances, wonderfully portrayed by Salman Khan. The movie is also the debut vehicle for Sonakshi Sinha, the daughter of Shatrughan Sinha, a famous actor himself. Directed by Abhinav Kashyap, the movie garnered a great opening and has made money for the producers.Raajneeti
This was a much-awaited movie, directed and produced by Prakhash Jha, a veteran in Bollywood with a stellar list of blockbusters behind him .The plot revolved around the inner struggles for power within a political family. Despite its rather serious dramatic story, the movie managed to garner the attention of the masses. Probably that was due to the sensitivity with which the director conveyed the sensibilities and motives of each and every character. My name is Khan
A hard hitting drama My name is Khan lived up to the hype created around it by its director Karan Johar. The star case included the onscreen golden couple Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) and Kajol. The plot of the movie revolves around the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy that led to the thousands of Muslims living in USA become the subject of acute harassment. The beautiful portrayal by Kajol of a woman who loses her only child to meaningless hatred serves as a wonderful background to the sensitivity of SRK’s character as he sets off across USA to meet the president of USA in order to win back his wife.Housefull
Sajid Khan, the director of the movie and Producer Sajid Nadiadwala, laughed all the way to the bank due to this hilarious comedy. The main plot of the story revolved around Akshay Kumar who played a character who believed he was the unluckiest man in the world and had the firm conviction that his luck would change once he found his own true love. In order to find that woman who would turn his life around, he gets embroiled in a web of lies and deception.Once upon a time in Mumbai
Once Upon a ime in Mumbai got a surprisingly positive response by families despite some gory violent scenes. The story of the film revolved around a gangster, his struggle for power and his lady love. The star cast included Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi, Kangna Ranaut and Prachi Desai, among others. Directed by Milan Luthria, the movie was produced by Ekta and Shobha Kapoor, under the famous Balaji Motion Pictures banner.Kites
Marketed as a romance, Kites proved itself to be a mix of thriller and romance. Despite a stellar star cast, including Hrithik Roshan and a Spanish actress Barbara Mori, the movie failed to live up to its expectation, although it did make adequate money. Perhaps one of the main reason for the below expected performance of the movie was the fact that half the conversation between the lead actor and actress was in Spanish. For a romance to click, the audience needs to connect to the developing romance between the couple and since the masses could not understand the dialogues, there was a disconnect from the story. Kites was directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Rakesh Roshan.
More movies releasing in November include Action Replayy, Golmaal 3, Guzaarish, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, Break Ke Baad, No Problem and Tees Maar Khan are still in reckoning as they release later in the year. Most of these have big star actors such as Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Imran Khan, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Apart from these there are many more movies that will release within the next two months. Wa
I hate luv stories
This highly awaited movie lived up to its expectation. With a light fluffy romance set in the setting of a movie production unit, it had enough drama as well as comic moments to attract the younger crowds as well as family audiences. It was the debut vehicle of director Punit Malhotra, the nephew of famous Indian designer Manish Malhotra. Produced by Karan Johar under the banner of Dharma Productions, the movie was marketed well and made good money for the producer.Anjaana Anjaani
In this highly anticipated romantic movie, Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra were paired opposite each other for the first time. The interesting thing about the story was its unique plot which featured the two main characters wishing to commit suicide in the movie. Director Siddharth Anand captured the emotions and vulnerability of the characters and made good money for the producer Sajid Nadiadwala.Khaata Meetha
Khaata Meetha opened to mix reviews and although the movie had extremely high expectation due to the presence of director Priyadarshan and actor Akshay Kumar, both of whom have given big hits together, the movie failed to impress the masses to the degree that had been expected. However, the movie did well and since it was produced by Akshay Kumar, he did not lose money in it. His upcoming movie Thank You is one of the most awaited movie of 2011.Veer
A romantic period magnum opus written by Salman Khan and having a huge star cast was expected to light the box office on fire. Directed by Anil Sharma, the movie however proved too long for the audience’s appetite and did not do as well as expected. An audience used to the fast paced movies of today failed to connect to the long-winded and slow romance and debutante Zarine Khan did not benefit from this star-studded project as much as she had hoped.More movies releasing in November include Action Replayy, Golmaal 3, Guzaarish, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, Break Ke Baad, No Problem and Tees Maar Khan are still in reckoning as they release later in the year. Wa
